Privacy Policy

Last Updated: April 2025

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how WireMuse® ("the Service," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and handles your information when you use our video chat platform. By using WireMuse, you consent to the data practices described in this policy.

We are committed to transparency about our data practices. Please read this policy carefully to understand how we handle your information.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

2.1 Device and Browser Information

  • Browser Fingerprint: We generate a unique identifier based on your browser and device characteristics using FingerprintJS technology. This is used to identify your device across sessions.
  • User Agent: Information about your browser type and version.
  • Screen Resolution: Your device's display dimensions.
  • Language Settings: Your browser's language preference.
  • Timezone: Your device's timezone setting.

2.2 Network Information

  • IP Address: Your Internet Protocol address is collected and stored. This is used for security purposes and preventing abuse.
  • Geographic Location: We determine your country-level location using Cloudflare's geolocation services based on your IP address. We do not collect precise GPS coordinates.

2.3 User-Provided Information

  • Display Name: The name you choose to display to other users.
  • Gender Selection: Your self-identified gender for matching purposes.
  • Country Preferences: Your preferred countries for matching with other users.

2.4 Usage Information

  • Conversation Logs: We track conversation duration and metadata (not content) for quality and moderation purposes.
  • Session Data: Information about your sessions, including when you accepted terms and your activity status.
  • Report Data: If you report another user or are reported, we collect and store relevant information including screenshots.

2.5 Report Screenshots

When a user submits a report, a screenshot of the video feed may be captured and stored. These screenshots are used solely for moderation purposes to review reported content and enforce our Terms and Conditions.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

  • Service Operation: To provide, maintain, and improve the video chat service.
  • User Matching: To match you with other users based on preferences.
  • Security and Abuse Prevention: To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues.
  • Moderation: To enforce our Terms and Conditions and maintain a safe environment.
  • Ban Enforcement: To identify and prevent access by banned users.
  • Analytics: To understand how users interact with the Service and improve user experience.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

We use browser storage technologies to operate the Service:

4.1 LocalStorage

We store the following in your browser's localStorage:

  • User fingerprint identifier
  • User ID
  • Display name and preferences
  • Country detection data
  • Dark mode preference

4.2 SessionStorage

We store the following in your browser's sessionStorage:

  • Terms acceptance status (per session)
  • Room type preferences

4.3 Essential vs Non-Essential Cookies

Essential (Required for Service):

  • User fingerprint - Required to identify your device for matching
  • User ID - Required to track your session and enforce moderation
  • Cookie consent preference - Required to remember your choice
  • Country detection - Required for matching preferences
  • Terms acceptance - Required to confirm you've agreed to terms

These are necessary for the Service to function. Without them, we cannot match you with other users or enforce our Terms and Conditions.

Non-Essential (Optional):

  • Google Analytics cookies - Used to understand usage patterns
  • Advertising cookies - Used by ad partners for relevant ads
  • Dark mode preference - Remembers your display preference

These enhance your experience but are not required. For EU/EEA users, non-essential cookies are only set after you provide consent.

4.4 Managing Cookies

You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings. However, disabling essential cookies will prevent the Service from functioning properly. Most browsers allow you to:

  • View what cookies are stored
  • Delete specific or all cookies
  • Block third-party cookies
  • Block all cookies (this will break the Service)

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may collect or process your data:

5.1 Cloudflare

Used for content delivery, security, and IP-based geolocation. Cloudflare may collect IP addresses and related network data. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for more information.

5.2 Google Analytics

When enabled, Google Analytics collects usage data including pages visited, session duration, and device information. This data is used to analyze usage patterns and improve the Service. See Google's privacy policy for more information.

5.3 DigitalOcean

Our infrastructure and file storage is hosted on DigitalOcean. Report screenshots and other data are stored on DigitalOcean Spaces. See DigitalOcean's privacy policy for more information.

5.4 Stripe

Payment processing for premium features is handled by Stripe. When you make a purchase, your payment information is processed directly by Stripe — we never see or store your credit card details. See Stripe's privacy policy for more information on how they handle your payment data.

5.5 WebRTC/TURN Services

Video communication is facilitated through WebRTC technology and TURN servers provided by Cloudflare. These services process your video/audio streams in real-time but do not store recordings.

6. Data Retention

We designed WireMuse with your privacy in mind. All data we collect is anonymous by design — we do not require or store real names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any other personal identifiers. Your data is retained only as long as necessary:

  • User Records: Automatically deleted after 40 days of inactivity. If you return to the Service within that period, the timer resets.
  • IP Addresses: Stored temporarily for security purposes and automatically deleted along with your user record after 40 days of inactivity.
  • Report Screenshots: Retained for moderation review; associated data follows the same 40-day inactivity deletion policy.
  • Conversation Metadata: Retained for quality and moderation purposes; automatically purged with your user record after 40 days of inactivity.
  • Ban Records: Retained permanently to prevent circumvention of bans. This is the only data exempt from the 40-day deletion policy.

LocalStorage and sessionStorage data is stored on your device and can be cleared by you at any time through your browser settings.

7. Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information, including:

  • HTTPS encryption for all data transmission
  • Secure cloud infrastructure
  • Access controls for administrative functions

However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Due to the anonymous nature of the Service (no account registration required), traditional data access and deletion requests are limited. However:

  • Clear Local Data: You can clear localStorage and sessionStorage through your browser settings at any time.
  • Opt-Out of Analytics: You can use browser extensions or settings to block analytics tracking.
  • Stop Using the Service: You may stop using the Service at any time.

We do not provide mechanisms to access, download, or delete server-side data associated with your fingerprint or IP address due to the anonymous nature of the Service and security considerations.

9. Children's Privacy

WireMuse is strictly for users 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we discover that we have collected information from a minor, we will take steps to delete that information and terminate their access immediately.

10. International Users

WireMuse is operated from and governed by the laws of Mexico. If you access the Service from outside Mexico, you do so at your own risk and are responsible for compliance with local laws. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer and processing of your information in Mexico.

We do not specifically target users in any particular jurisdiction and make no representations that the Service is appropriate or available for use in any specific location.

11. European Users (GDPR Compliance)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the following additional information applies to you under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar laws:

11.1 Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data under the following legal bases:

  • Consent: For analytics and non-essential cookies, we obtain your explicit consent through our cookie consent banner before processing.
  • Legitimate Interests: For essential data processing required to operate the Service, including device fingerprinting for user identification, IP logging for security and abuse prevention, and session management.
  • Contract Performance: Processing necessary to provide the Service you requested by accessing WireMuse.

11.2 Your Rights Under GDPR

Under GDPR, you have the following rights:

  • Right of Access: Request information about how your data is processed.
  • Right to Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data.
  • Right to Restrict Processing: Request limitation of how we use your data.
  • Right to Data Portability: Request a copy of your data in a structured format.
  • Right to Object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent at any time for consent-based processing.

Important Limitation: Due to the anonymous nature of WireMuse (no account registration, no email collection), we cannot verify your identity to fulfill individual data rights requests. The data we collect (fingerprint, IP address) cannot be matched to a specific individual without additional information that we do not collect.

To exercise your rights to the extent possible, you may clear your browser's localStorage and cookies, which will remove locally stored data and generate a new fingerprint on your next visit.

11.3 International Data Transfers

Your data is transferred to and processed in Mexico and other countries where our service providers operate (including the United States for Cloudflare and Google services). These transfers are necessary to provide the Service. By using WireMuse after accepting cookies, you consent to these international transfers.

11.4 Cookie Consent Requirement

If you are located in the EU/EEA, you will be presented with a cookie consent banner upon visiting the Service. You may choose to accept or decline cookies. If you decline, you will not be able to use the video chat features, as cookies and local storage are essential for user matching and session management.

12. California Users (CCPA Notice)

If you are a California resident, you have certain rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Due to the anonymous nature of our Service:

  • We do not sell personal information.
  • We cannot verify user identity to fulfill access or deletion requests.
  • You may opt-out of analytics tracking through browser settings.

13. Advertising

We may display advertisements on the Service. Advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve relevant ads. We do not control the data practices of advertising partners. You may opt-out of personalized advertising through your browser settings or industry opt-out tools.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be effective immediately upon posting to the Service. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

15. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of Mexico. Any disputes arising from this policy shall be resolved exclusively in the courts of Mexico.

16. No Contact Information

WireMuse does not provide contact information for privacy inquiries. This is an anonymous service, and we do not maintain customer support channels for privacy-related requests. Your use of the Service constitutes acceptance of these data practices.
